Summary

Field Representative (mud engineer) for oil field drilling fluids company

Major Assignments

  • Provide 24-hour, on-call or resident, on-site field service to land and offshore oil well drilling projects
  • Monitor and control the chemical and physical properties of drilling fluids to match downhole conditions (such as pressure, temperature, volumes, formation porosities, and so forth)
  • Maintain proper, on-location inventory of the fluids constituents and additives needed for nominal and/or contingency oil well drilling (and well workover) scenarios
  • Supervise and instruct the drilling rig crew who were responsible for or assisted with maintaining proper drilling fluid volumes, cuttings and solids removal, or other fluid conditioning tasks
  • Report, on a daily and cumulative basis, drilling fluid properties, inventory usage, costs, and drilling conditions
  • Coordinate drilling fluid maintenance activities with the ongoing plans and requirements of other drilling supervisory and service personnel
  • Occasionally provide mentoring to new field service representatives

Significant Accomplishments

  • Acquired new knowledge of oil well-related disciplines and technologies, such as land and offshore drilling rig components, geological formations, drill stem components, well logging, downhole retrievals, directional drilling, and so forth
  • Acquired new knowledge of Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast local geography and culture
  • Developed new skills in working with people who had a wide range of personalities, work habits, cultural backgrounds, and viewpoints
  • Developed new skills in field laboratory operations and measurements
  • Improved skills in handling adverse environmental conditions
